Joe Rogan was very happy to hear that the UFC are taking steps to improve their gloves again.
While he’s finally been able to suggest a return date, Tom Aspinall is still recovering from his eye injuries that he suffered last October.
The heavyweight champion couldn’t continue after he was poked in the eyes several times during his first defense of the title.
Instances like this could lead to some UFC rule changes, but many will still point to the gloves themselves being something the promotion needs to address.
You are Dana White for the day, what’s the one change you’d make to the UFC?
Trevor Wittman tells Joe Rogan that Hunter Campbell has reached out about his gloves
Despite the UFC implementing new gloves in 2024, the same issues with them have continued after the promotion made the decision to revert back to the old model.
Anyone who has spent a significant amount of time listening to Joe Rogan talk about MMA on his podcast will know that he believes the answer to this problem lies with Trevor Wittman.
Wittman recently told Rogan during an appearance on his podcast that the UFC’s Hunter Campbell recently reached out to him about the gloves that he designed.
“Hunter reached out to me three weeks ago, four weeks ago, and said he wanted to ignite the conversation again so we’ll see where that goes.”
The biggest difference between Wittman’s gloves and the UFC’s is that they’re curved, meaning the fighter’s hand will be naturally in a fist shape rather than having fingers extended which caused eye pokes.
Wittman’s gloves have received interest from the UFC in the past, but they weren’t able to make it work.
While he says that the sport’s top promotion worked with him and implemented some of his ideas, he believes that “They couldn’t do it to the level that I can do it.”

Wittman brought a pair of his gloves with him to Rogan’s studio and helped the UFC commentator put them on during the podcast.
“This is so superior to the UFC gloves,” Rogan said when trying them out. “I mean the fact that this isn’t being used by the UFC right now is f—— criminal.”
The stand-up comedian added that you don’t even need hand wraps with them once he had them fully fastened.
